THE PRIVATE ATELIER OF AUMBER HUDSON

A personal vision.
Beautifully made.

Commissions, one-off pieces, and the pleasure of making something particular.

The work begins
with a point of view.

A private workshop, one pair of hands.

Five Pack Studios is my studio. It's where I make one-off pieces, take the rare commission, and chase projects that have a particular purpose... or that simply will not leave me alone.
The work here is growing. Below, you'll find some old projects, future projects, and one set currently in the store. That set is only the beginning. If nothing else, I hope you stick around to see what unfolds as I finally put form to the ideas in my head.

This studio and Emberwright Enterprises are two separate companies that work closely together. Both are mine; the work simply outgrew one company. Please send help.

Every detail
has a reason.

The character of a work lives in the decisions that shape it.

  1. I

    The Wild Idea

    QUESTION THE NORM

Every project starts with some version of the same question. I look at the way something is usually done and think, “How far past that could I go?”

  2. II

    Working Backwards

    START WITH THE FINISHED THING

I can usually picture it long before I know how to make it. Then I take it apart in my head, piece by piece, until I know where to begin.

  3. III

    The Detail

    MAKE IT REAL

This is the secret sauce, but it’s a double-edged sword. I’ll often go back to a detail that probably only bothers me and obsess over it for a couple of weeks.

  4. IV

    On the Bench

    SOLVE ENOUGH PROBLEMS

Then I’ll encounter a problem that sends me back to step two. I might have to learn a new skill or take out another loan. And then one day, after solving enough problems, the thing I’ve been turning over in my head for years is sitting on the bench. Please buy it. I have loans.

IN SUPPORT OF THE HEARTH PROJECT

Good work reaches further.

The Hearth Project is Emberwright's promise to put what it earns toward helping people make things. Five Pack Studios keeps that promise from the other side of the same coin.

The store here directly supports the Ember Fund, beginning with the capital needed to establish it correctly.

THE STUDIO STORE · OPEN TO EVERYONE

Claimed on the bench.
Finished for you.

Finished work from the studio. As new sets come off the bench, each one gets its own shelf here.

Each Showcase Platter is in the studio now as a work in progress. A pre-order makes your piece a priority to finish, in about two weeks, with the Aetherwood border of your choice.

This series will not be repeated. I don't do rework. I burn an idea out of my head, and then it either evolves or dies. Either way, this particular design begins and ends right here.
Every piece is finished with the TEMPEST system. A platter finished without a pre-order costs more.

  1. IChoose your platter. Fifteen centerpiece exotic woods. Each platter is one of a kind.
  2. IIIt moves to the front of the bench. Your order makes it a priority to finish.
  3. IIIChoose your border. It's finished with the Aetherwood trim you pick.

The small circle shows each wood's color. Choose a platter, then More details for all of its photos.

ON THE BENCH NOW Choose a wood above and its tag is brought forward.
